Using a professional CV writer is more important than ever. Recent research by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has shown that job-seekers who write their own CVs blow their chances by presenting employers with dozens of spelling and grammar howlers.
But don’t panic. I can help you write your CV. I’m a professional CV writer with nearly 20 years as a writer and editor behind me. Some of my biggest clients are recruitment agencies and I spent three years in Human Resources. So I know how to write a professional CV. In short, I can write your CV.
But first, let’s look at why you might need a professional CV writer to write your CV. The REC’s survey said that nearly half of the recruitment agencies questioned said most of the CVs they receive contain grammatical errors. Consider this: one applicant actually headed his CV (curriculum vitae) with the words ‘Kuriculam Vitay’.
Among the other errors that would make a professional CV writer blush is the misuse of the apostrophe, as in ‘Wale's largest computer warehouse’. Confusion over ‘wood’ and ‘would’, ‘roll’ and ‘role’, and ‘personnel’ and ‘personal’ are also common.
Shockingly, the research indicates that secretaries - who write letters for their bosses - are most likely to be in need of a professional CV writer to write their CV. Those in their early twenties are most likely to make a mess of writing their CV, and men are bigger culprits than women.
The research only adds to concern about the ‘text generation’, whose main form of communication is mobile-phone text-speak that’s incomprehensible to older generations.
REC chief executive Marcia Roberts said: "Candidates who make errors run the risk of missing out on being short-listed for a job despite having the right experience and qualifications. Job-seekers should first pay more attention to getting the basics right."
Susan Anderson, a director of the Confederation of British Industry, said: "Sadly, while basic literacy and numeracy should be a given for school-leavers, too many are not picking up these fundamental life skills."
And CV-writing mistakes are not confined to spelling and grammar. Candidates should think twice before including matter such as ‘going to the cinema’ or ‘socialising with friends’ in their ‘Outside interests’ sections.
The REC urged workers to ask their family and friends to check their CVs several times before sending them out. Even better, getting a professional CV writer to write your CV for you can be a great investment.
A professional CV writer… like me. I’ve not only spent many years as a journalist, editor and copywriter, but have also worked in Human Resources. This means that I know how to write a professional CV. I know the order to put your information in. I know what to leave out. I can tailor your CV towards a particular job. And I know how to spell.
So why not get in touch? Using a professional CV writer could cost just a tiny fraction of your future earnings. Don’t you owe that to yourself?
