Radio copywriter for your radio adverts

Radio copywriter here.

When people ask me what my favourite type of copywriting is, I hesitate. For about a nanosecond. It’s radio copywriting, and I would be a full-time radio copywriter if I possibly could.

Humorous radio copywriter

Why? I guess I’m good with humour, and humour lends itself to radio advert copywriting in a big way. It’s also a big challenge. The radio copywriter is under pressure to write great copy like in no other medium. I like that kind of challenge. And then to hear your radio ad on the airwaves… wow.

Of course, your radio copywriter can throw in all the chuckles he likes into his radio adverts, but he mustn’t lose sight of the need to sell.

That’s why my UK radio ad copywriting always does the basics well:

1) I tell a story in a humorous way.
2) I show, not tell.
3) I write in the listener’s language.
4) I stick to one topic — chuck six balls at someone and they’ll drop the lot. Throw one and there’s a chance they’ll catch it.
5) I use specific examples, not generalisations.
6) I cut out all corporate drivel.
7) I include a strong call to action.

And my stuff works. The last radio ad I wrote drew this response from the client: “The soundfile of your radio ad is attached. We were absolutely mobbed over the last five days. On the first day of the sale, people queued for two-and-a-half hours! ”

In-house radio copywriter

But hey, I’m not going to lie. In thousands of freelance projects over the years, I’ve not written as much radio advertising as I’d like.

Why’s that? Well, plenty stations have their own in-house copywriters for their radio advertising. Which is fine.

But I’d love to build up my radio copywriter portfolio. (Remember: being a radio copywriter is the best job in the world.) So, I’m offering great prices on radio copywriting.
